About Us
General:
We are a large mixed-origin multiple system of nonhumans that go by collective system name of House of Chimeras.
"Multiple system" meaning we are a group of individuals sharing one single body together.
"Mixed-origin" meaning that our multiplicity is caused by several factors as far as we have been able to figure out. From what we have been able to gather our existence is best attributed to a combination of neurological factors connected to our atypical brain chemistry, psychological factors born out of life experiences, spiritual factors brought on by a natural inclination toward spirit work and other animistic practices, and a few other odds and ends. Many of us either know or strongly suspect where our exact personal origins lay but some of us are not sure what lead us to being here.
The "nonhuman" part, that means that all of the members who are part of our multiple system are nonhuman personally even if our body is physically human. A majority of our system are pretty cut and dry nonhuman animals known to exist or had once existed on Earth. A smaller portion of us are of individuals whose species blurs the line between Earth animals and mythical or fictional creatures. Finally, there are headmates in our system who are plants.
Despite sharing a physical body we each have our own name, gender, thoughts, feelings, and wants in life. While it took us some time and work to get to the level of cooperation and trust we share today, we feel that our existence does not hinder our ability to live a healthy and functional independent life. We all have come to be able to share ownership of this body equally as we work together to best enjoy what life has to offer us.

Our Nonhumanity:
Mental Health - We actually have talked about our nonhumanity to a mental health professional. (More than one actually, due to us having had, at present, 5 different ones over the course of a decade due to insurance changes, moving, or similar life events.) None of those we have seen have taken issue with our being nonhuman non-physically, and several have actually actively worked with us find ways of dealing with our species dysphoria. Community History - We learned of the therian (then still sometimes called the were) community in August 2003 after the documentary Animal Imitators premiered. We discovered the online community in March/April 2006 when we managed to find several therian and otherkin resource websites. We became active in the online community on November 2007 after joining several Facebook groups including one called “Wild At Heart.” We are most active in the therian community due to over half of system being Earthly animals and most of the rest of us being animals or animalistic still regardless of if their species literally exists or not. We have also be found in several otherkin or fictionkin spaces as well as general alterhuman spaces. |
Our Plurality:
Mental Health - We have also talked to several to a mental health professional about our plurality. In November 2010, we received a diagnosis of Dissociative Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (DDNOS) from our first therapist with her stating she could have diagnosed us with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) if we hadn't already overcome our blackouts between us on our own prior to finally seeing someone. Come March 2015 and a new therapist we were reassessed due to the DSM-5 having come out and we were found to not meet criteria for DID or OSDD due to our symptoms in the present not meeting all the criteria for either. (Both now required symptoms to cause distress and impairment, which we didn't experience anymore.) However, this has not stopped every mental health professional since our first one to acknowledge our plurality. They note we once did meet criteria for DID and OSDD, we just can't be re-diagnosed with it based on our existence in the present not meeting all the criteria. Community History - We learned of the plural community in mid-2006 thanks to mentions about it on the therian resource websites we came across at that time. After a long winding fight of denial, we accepted our plurality, openly admitted our multiplicity, and began being active in the plural community in May 2009. |
