History of the Therian Community - 2002
On March 24 2002, the Yahoo group, Werewolves & Therianthropy was created.
On June 3rd 2002, Kaltezar completed the design for the Otherkin Emblem (other names for the design include Otherkin Sigil and Otherkin Logo). Kaltezar chose the image of an elf, dragon, and wolf due to it showing a diversity around of what otherkin can identify as well as noting the three earliest otherkin communities (elfkin, therian, and draconic).
A few days later on Livejournal, a social blogging website which had been created back in 2000 gained its first therian related group in the form of the group labeled therianthropy with the title “Therianthropists and OtherKin Community” on June 7th 2002. This Livejounral community is still active today along with others on the website.
On June 21st to June 26th 2002 the fourth HOWLapalooza, called HOWLapalooza IV took place. In total, 18 people attended including Goldenwolf.
In August 2002, a jaguar therian by the name of Swiftpaw created an article “Tracing the Origins of the Term Therianthropy.” The article contained Swiftpaw’s findings into looking through the early years of alt.horror.werewolves for the use of the word therianthropy. In the article, the first time the word was used (in December 2014) and since counted the number of times therianthropy was used between 1994 to 2002. Swiftpaw also noted how many of each year’s number of uses came from werecards (as one of the questions on the werecard asked about “Personal Lycanthropy/Therianthropy”).
On November 21st 2002, the last comics were added to the House of Were.
